ORIENTATION IS REQUIRED FOR ALL PARTICIPANTS UNLESS YOU HAVE MADE PRIOR SPECIAL ARRANGEMENTS. Orientation is Friday night 8:00 p.m. Those who wish to sit only one day may participate by choosing and appropriate 24 hour period. The retreat consists of morning bows, chanting, sitting and walking meditation, formal meals, and rest breaks. The Zen Master will give kong-an interviews. Vegetarian meals are provided. Please let us know in advance if you have any special dietary needs or other special needs.
SLEEPING ACCOMMODATIONS: Everyone is welcome and encouraged to stay overnight Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights (no extra fee). Staying overnight helps maintain a continuity to your practice during the retreat, but is not required.
WHAT TO BRING TO THE RETREAT:
- Four bowls that nest into each other, clean wash cloth, cloth napkin big enough to wrap around the bowls.
- One spoon and one set of chopsticks.
- Loose, comfortable clothing.
- A warm layer in case the room is cool (adjustability is good; bows work up a sweat, sitting is low activity).
- A zafu, sitting bench, firm pillow, or rolled blanket to sit on.
- A sitting mat or blanket to cushion you from the floor.
- Sleeping bag, sleeping pad, pillow, towel, and personal toiletries if you plan to stay overnight.
